What is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy?

Understanding DBT

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness strategies to help individuals manage emotions, improve relationships, and build resilience. Originally developed for borderline personality disorder, DBT is now used for various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Our Approach to DBT

At Breakthrough CBH, we integrate mindfulness and cognitive strategies in our DBT practice to provide a balanced approach to emotional regulation. Our therapists work closely with clients to develop skills that promote both acceptance of current situations and the motivation for positive change.

DBT teaches mindfulness skills to help clients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, allowing them to remain grounded in the present moment.

DBT helps clients develop strategies to manage intense emotions effectively, reducing emotional reactivity and improving overall mental health.

DBT focuses on building healthy communication and relationship skills, enabling individuals to navigate interpersonal conflicts with confidence.

DBT equips clients with techniques to tolerate distress in challenging situations without resorting to harmful behaviors, promoting emotional stability.
